DONATIONS TO THE JONNYCAKE CENTER

The Bradford Jonnycake Center of Westerly gratefully accepts donations of money, food, clothing furniture and household items.  Receipts for donated items are available upon request.

All donations must be dropped off during the hours listed below only!  Please be considerate of our neighbors and do not leave donations on our grounds while we are closed.
 
We accept donations of items for the Thrift Store Monday through Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  We are closed on Sundays.

 
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
 
It is always a good idea to call ahead when you plan to donate items of clothing, furniture or housewares.
 
  • We must be able to see and inspect all donated items.  We cannot accept boxes or other closed containers unless you open them for us when you deliver them.
  • We reserve the right to refuse items that are not in a clean and saleable condition.  If you would not purchase the items yourself, don't assume that someone else will.
  • Even when you bring items to us that are otherwise acceptable, we may sometimes have to refuse them because we may not have the space available to accept your donation.  We often receive large quantities of donationed items from other agencies or area churches or civic groups, which fills up our storage space.  When that happens, we will always refer you to other nearby agencies that would be happy to accept your donation.
  • We cannot accept mattresses and box springs as we are not permitted to resell them and we are charged to dispose of them.
  • We no longer accept electronics such as televisions or computer monitors.
  • We do not accept childrens toys, but we do accept board games.

Remember, anything that we cannot sell actually costs us money.  Our costs of disposal run high as we continue to fill our dumpster with merchandise and clothes that will not benefit anyone.  The cost of disposal negates the benefit of proper donations.

All cash donations go directly to food and financial assistance for our clients.  The store pays our overhead expenses.  If you wish to specify that your donation be used for any of the following program areas, please note it on the memo section of your check, or in a cover letter to us:

  • Greatest Need
  • Heating Fund
  • Housing/Utilities Fund
  • Education Fund
  • Food Pantry


FURNITURE DONATIONS

Donations of large furniture items should be scheduled by contacting the Center by phone.  We inspect and pick up furniture that is in sellable condition. Small furniture donations are welcome at our new location but we suggest prior contact with the center to schedule. Call 377-8069, extension 1, and ask the Store Manager to set a time to receive your small furniture donation.



USED VEHICLE DONATIONS

There are two ways you can donate your used vehicle to us.

  • Call DonationLine at 1 (877) 227-7487 ext. 1108 and tell them that you have an auto that you wish to donate to the Bradford Jonnycake Center.  A date and time will be set up for the removal of your auto.

Donations can be made specifically to the Education Fund by notation on your check or by letter.
